Skills are the fundamentals for every Software Developer. As a Backend Developer one need to have strong foundation in one of the server side language , I do have in Python.
When you work on Complex and Scalable systems you must be aware of one of the framework of your choice for Rapid Developement.I love working with Django based on philosophy DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself).
When you work with web based applications , You interact with Databases. I do have experience in PostgreSQL (Relational) and MongoDB(NoSql).
Apart from these fundamentals , I work with Docker containers to build and deploy faster.
There are many Asynchronous and Background tasks which needs to be performed in Software Developement like Sending Notifications via SMS , Email or Whatsapp or highly computational tasks. For these taks , I do use Message Queue RabbitMq based on Publisher Subscriber Model.
